How Hardware Makes a Difference
Supporting our communities is a privilege and a priority. As a locally owned and family-operated business, we feel a close connection to our neighbors. We donate to schools, churches and the scouts, and hold annual events to raise awareness and money for local services.
The Ladies Night fundraiser, held at all seven stores one night a year, nets thousands of dollars in donations. The money we raise each year helps Food Lifeline fight hunger in the Pacific Northwest. Our annual free pancake breakfast and plant sale is a firm favorite amongst neighbors and customers. The event brings together happy faces, a lot of maple syrup and fuchsias—something our customers look forward to all winter long.
The recent natural disaster in Oso did not go unnoticed by the McLendon family or our stores’ Team Members. We donated to North Counties’ Family Services Relief Fund, which directs funds to those most affected by the devastation of the landslide.
We’re also proud to recruit military veterans. We partner with Work of Honor, a Tacoma-based nonprofit, to help veterans pair their military experience with civilian jobs. Every day, Team Members in the stores and behind the scenes work to make our communities stronger.
A Ladies’ Night Out for Northwest Families
McLendon Hardware provided 70,000 meals to our Puget Sound neighbors as a result of its wildly successful Ladies Night community benefit program. Tickets sold for this 'how-to' event raised $14,000 for Food Lifeline. McLendon partnered with local vendors and Total Wine and More to provide attendees with swag and vino.
5th Annual Pet-a-Pawlooza Photo Contest
After nearly 1,000 entries and more than 10,000 votes, congratulations to McLendon’s 5th annual Pet-a-Pawlooza Photo Contest winners! Queen Tokyo and King Freddie each take home a $500 McLendon’s gift card for their human and all the glory of the crown. Oh, what a flea-ling!
Nurturing Stronger Minds Through Head Start
The White Center McLendon Hardware is a field trip destination for five Head Start programs from around south Seattle. Head Start is a comprehensive preschool program that provides free services and support to ensure kids enter kindergarten ready to succeed. Team Members in White Center put on gardening projects to bring a love for healthy food and the environment into young lives.
Cleaning Up Pierce County Parks
McLendon Hardware gave a helping hand in banishing blackberries and invasive ivy at the Pierce County Parks and Recreation Department’s inaugural Pitch in for Parks program. McLendon donated the tools, gloves and supplies used by 50 volunteers for the cleanups throughout the Pierce County. Volunteers collected enough garbage to fill a full-size pickup truck bed.
Floating Through Renton River Days
McLendon Hardware is a longtime co-sponsor of Renton River Days, a community festival celebrating Renton’s heritage and history. In 2015, the store won Mayor’s Choice Award as the best entry that showed community spirit and citizen contribution.
Flapjacks and Fuchsias
In 1926, Moses McLendon opened McLendon Hardware with one belief: If we don’t have it, you don’t need it.
And who doesn’t need breakfast and fuchsias?
For decades, thousands of customers have enjoyed our yearly Anniversary Sale. The delicious draw is a free pancake breakfast, complete with orange juice, coffee and tasty sausages.
Our gigantic fuchsia baskets also whet many a gardener’s whistle, and are a featured product during our yearly springtime sale.
