heather in bloom

A BRIGHT SPOT

Loaded with spikes of delicate, bell-shaped flowers, winter-blooming heather adds a colorful contrast to fall- & winter-dormant flowerbeds. Also called heath, Irish heath or Scotch heather, these English moorland natives thrive in cold, dreary drizzle.

  • Easy care: Deer-resistant & hardy
  • Blooms continuously into spring
  • Color-changing evergreen foliage in winter
  • Plant in well-draining, acidic soil
  • Low-height shrubs range from 4 inches to 3 feet

HEATHER GROWING TIPS

These boggy shrubs grow very well in our sour soil—heathers and heaths are acid aficionados. Hardy and drought resistant, plant these in full sun, partial sun or partial shade. Little, if any, fertilizing is needed—if you do, do so in the spring.
