 It's Fir Real

Your perfect tree is here! Our locally grown Douglas & Grand firs are freshly harvested from Washington farms.

Douglas Fir

DOUGLAS FIR

Pseudotsuga menziesii

You've found the fir that never was! Pseudotsuga may mean “false hemlock,” but truthfully Doug firs are a longtime Northwest favorite. With its full, symmetrical shape, true-green needles and sweet fragrance, it's the most economical Christmas tree at McLendon's.

TREE TIDBIT:
Despite its thousand-year life span in a forest, Doug firs rarely grow taller than 350 feet. That's because it can't draw water beyond that height, according to researchers at Oregon State University.

FRAGRANCE - Strong & aromatic
FULLNESS/DENSITY - Full, dense branches & feathery, verdant needles
CARE - Water daily & enjoy for 4+ weeks

Grand Fir

GRAND FIR

Abies grandis

You've found the most fragrant Christmas tree! A Grand fir and its lush green needles will fill your home with the quintessential aroma of the season. Take note, though—dry stands kill Grands. “NEVER let the water reservoir be depleted,” said Bob, our Christmas tree buyer.

TREE TIDBIT:
Where does all that water in the stand go? A Grand's needle undersides are wax-less, allowing them to release water—and a Grand's signature scent—during a process called transpiration.

FRAGRANCE - Strongest, intensely aromatic
FULLNESS/DENSITY - Very full, dense branches & glossy deep-green needles
CARE - Water twice daily & enjoy it 3+ weeks

Noble Fir

NOBLE FIR

Abies procera

You've found the strongest Christmas tree! Firm, well-defined branch tiers make Nobles particularly suitable for heavy ornaments. Rigid, silvery blue-green needles release a fresh, mild fragrance that lasts all season long. Tree-decorating aficionados favor Nobles' long “keep ability” with nary a needle drop. Nobles are our best-selling tree.

TREE TIDBIT:
Noble firs are more expensive than other Christmas tree varieties. Why? They're the slowest growers, taking 10 years to reach four feet. Requiring a decade of shaping and care, only the most experienced tree farmers grow Nobles.

FRAGRANCE - Mildly fragrant
FULLNESS/DENSITY - Full, defined branches & rigid blue-green needles
CARE - Water daily & enjoy for 5+ weeks

Nordmann

NORDMANN FIR

Abies nordmanniana

You found the nearly scentless Christmas tree! Nordmann firs are fab for households with allergies, sensitivities to smell or forgetful waterers. A Nordmann lasts longer than any other Christmas tree—and it's virtually fragrance-free—because its needles have a waxy cuticle that seals moisture and scent in.

TREE TIDBIT:
Europe's most popular Christmas tree looks exotic alongside traditional Douglas and Grand firs. These glossy green beauties are native to the Caucasus mountain range.

FRAGRANCE - Minimal to none
FULLNESS/DENSITY - Full, thick branches & dark green needles
CARE - Check water daily & enjoy for 6+ weeks
